JWS Joinery Staircasing

This elegant new staircase was created to match the profiles of an existing 1790's staircase. Heart pine was used for the treads, railing, and newel posts.

Several goosenecks were individually shaped by hand first, then pieced together to form the cascading railing.

The balusters are dovetailed into the treads for a solid support of the railing. Turned newel posts make a strong statement at each corner. (Newel posts turnings by Jaeger and Ernst.)

Railing is mitered into ball at lower newel post.

Light from an upstairs window brightens the balcony and fills the stairwell. The view of the railing is interesting from all angles.
