Dressmaker's Table

Birch top of dressmaker's cutting table with breadboard type construction.

Mahogany posts frame the base which is on wheels for convenient maneuvering of the large surface in a small workroom.

Mortised wood pulls on the doors and drawers make a low profile to eliminate snagging of fabrics.

Drawers are on wooden slides and are custom sized for the dressmaker's tools.

The opening above the drawers extends the width of the table and becomes a shelf for fabric rolls up to 5' long with access from either side of the table.

Sliding dovetail hard maple gibs support the open drop leaves.

The table top is actually a "lid" to the "box" of the base that can be removed allowing the table to be disassembled for fitting through narrow doorways or stairwells. The base is built in the manner of a bed frame that can be broken down into smaller units.

Fully open the table measures 5' x 8', a generous surface to handle most dressmaking jobs.

With the leaves down the table takes up much less space at 3' x 5' and can be put aside while still allowing access to its storage areas.
